Kalamazoo Ballet Bullard School 

Class Information

School year begins September 16 and continues until May 2014. 

The Bullard School year consists of thirty weeks.  It is assumed students will continue lessons for the complete school year.  Additional classes, work-shops, and camps are offered during the summer months.  It is strongly advised that children of eight years and over attend two or more lessons weekly after the first year of study. Parent-teacher conferences are held each semester, with parents Observation and Certificate Day celebrated each May.  For additional performance experiences students are encouraged to audition for the Kalamazoo Ballet Apprentice Program after the first year of study.

PRE
-PRIMARY BALLET
:(age 3-4) 
PRIMARY BALLET, LEVEL 1 BALLET (age 5-7)

Girls: Pink leotard with pink tights or socks. Pink soft ballet shoes.
Boys: White tee-shirt, black biker-shorts, white socks with matching white ballet shoes.
Students gain self-esteem and confidence, joy of dance and an appreciation of music while learning age appropriate ballet and creative movement.


LEVEL 1-1V  BALLET   (age 7-12)

Girls:
copen or light blue plain leotard, pink tights and soft pink shoes.  African American students may choose to wear flesh color tights with matching soft shoes.
Boys:  see above.  
Students gain a sense of achievement and confidence as

they progress through the levels.


NATIONAL/CHARACTER AND TAP CLASS


Females need a full circular or gathered skirt with hem measuring over four yards. Foot wear:  Tap shoes and highland (ballet) shoes.  These classes develop the students performance ability.  Three dance styles are studied each semester.  The material is traditional and authentic.  Some dances stem from the Royal Academy Syllabi.


ACADEMIC DANCE CLASS


A two-hour, ten-week semester, meets once per week.  The class is divided into units that may include:  dance history, music for dance, french terms, time management skills, tap, playing of castanets, anatomy, stage production, health, choreography, sewing and costume design
 

101 BALLET FOR ADULTS & TEENS (BEGINNER)


No uniform and no tests.  Learn basic ballet, stretches and terms.  Wear comfortable clothes and soft ballet shoes.  Shorts, sweats, tee-shirts and/or leggings.  Tights and leotards are great too.


UPPER LEVER BALLET 

The students take multiple classes, therefore, as a group, the girls may choose three leotard colors.  All MUST decide on the days-color and all follow suite.  

Boys:  wear adult mens dress (see Mr. Chua).

Classes include: Pointe, variations, pas de deux, choreography, mime, pirouette and technique.


THE APPRENTICE PROGRAM WITH KALAMAZOO BALLET

After two years of training, “serious” dancers may audition for the Pre-Professional program and become apprentice members of Kalamazoo Ballet. The degree of commitment is discussed with parents, student and teacher each semester.





Students who love dance, between ages of 6 and 12 may audition for the Apprentice Program of Kalamazoo Baller.  The classes are with the Bullard School which is the official school of Kalamazoo Ballet. Apprentices may also study with the school of their choice
