Kalamazoo Ballet Bullard School

Kalamazoo Ballet

The Kalamazoo Ballet was founded by Therese Bullard in 1969, and is an honor and charter member of the Mid-States Regional Dance America Association, although presently on sabbatical.  The Company's artistic philosophy focuses on excellence in professional performance together with fine arts education, coupled with a commitment to developiing and maintaining a varied repertoire consisting of traditional (including Highland) dance, classical ballet and innovative dance works.

Ms. Bullard, has choreographed and collaborated with August Tye (Bullard/Tye Productions) in creating works that include Alice in Wonderland,  Dracula, and Jane, based on the Charlotte Bronte novel Jane Eyre.  Ms. Bullard has also produced compressed versions of the ballets La Sylphide, Cinderella, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and, with the help of Valerie Roche,  Act 2 Coppelia.  Other Bullard productions include Dances of the British Isles, Dances of Many Lands,
Princess Tea, Ceilidh and more.
The Kalamazoo Ballet professional dancers also dance with Tyego Dance Project founded in 1993 and directed by August Tye with Aimee Tye serving as Associate Director.  Both sisters began their training with Bullard School and danced with Kalamazoo Ballet.   Today, August Tye serves as Ballet Mistress to Chicago Lyric Opera, and is Artistic Director of Hyde Park School of Dance, a school she founded twenty years ago in Chicago.  Aimee Tye serves on the faculty of Bullard School and was recently appointed Associate Director of Kalamazoo Ballet

Who May Dance With Kalamazoo Ballet?

The Kalamazoo Ballet accepts all ages and levels of dancers, depending on the roles available.  Auditions are held each September for membership.  Dancers are expected to take class three times per week at the school of their choice.  Dancers may also choose to audition per performance.  These auditions happen six weeks prior to the performance dates.  Both children and adults are welcome.

Kalamazoo Ballet members are primarily volunteers.  Dancers and parents are requested to make a monetary annual contribution and/or volunteer.  We encourage parents of dancers to become Friends of the Ballet.  To join: email Susan Bland, President of the "Friends"  at FriendsoftheKalamazooBallet@Gmail.com  We appreciate your support.  Kalamazoo Ballet exists by ticket sales, grants, generous donations and our supportive volunteers.

Classes and rehearsals are held at 431 E. South Street (at Pitcher) in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan, U.S.A.
